Lightstories is an evocative exhibition by Leonardo Antonio Avezzano, in which photography transcends its literal meaning of “writing with light” to become a profound journey of self-discovery. This collection presents carefully crafted images that capture unique moments through long exposures, blending natural landscapes with both artificial and natural sources of light.
The series began with the fortunate accident that created Interstellar Mistake, when a forgotten headlamp transformed a routine shot into a striking composition, bathing the foreground in a lava-like red glow. Embracing this mistake, Avezzano refined his technique, bringing light and nature together in an organic and intentional way.
Each work in Lightstories is not only a visual masterpiece but also a narrative reflecting Avezzano’s introspective process: long hours spent alone, a cigarette in hand, planning each shot while the camera silently recorded his dialogue with the world.
The exhibition offers a glimpse into the artist’s soul, where light becomes a medium for storytelling and a means of capturing the fleeting essence of life.
A journey into the essence of light.

“Naturalness is called the Way. The Way has neither name nor form; it is simply essence, simply the primordial spirit. Essence and life are invisible, so they are associated with heaven and light. Heaven and light are invisible, so they are associated with the two eyes.”
– The Secret of the Golden Flower
The light around us is often taken for granted, yet it is through light that we experience and perceive the world. In Chinese philosophy, the eyes are considered the essence of both light and life—a fascinating concept when viewed in relation to the invention of the camera, designed to replicate the function of the human eye. This interplay between vision, light, and perception forms the foundation of LIGHTSTORIES, a project that explores the very essence of light and its profound role in shaping our reality.
Light, that fundamental substance of the universe—part particle, part wave—behaves differently depending on how we observe it. Natural light from the sun connects us to the vast cosmos, bringing life to our planet and revealing its beauty. As a photographer, I have always been fascinated by light’s dual nature and its ability to resonate with our deepest selves. Through the lens of a camera, I have found a way to translate that resonance into something tangible: a photograph. The word photography means “writing with light,” and with every image, I seek to capture not only what I see, but what I feel—stories bound to places, people, and moments of pure awareness.
LIGHTSTORIES is an invitation to explore these intimate reflections, where light is not merely a physical phenomenon but an emotional experience. In these works, you will encounter not only the brightness of day but also the darkness of night: the backdrop against which light finds its meaning. A friend once told me, “The beauty of light is darkness.” Indeed, our planet is only a drop of light in an ocean of darkness, and within that drop we live, witnessing the lights of the past and imagining the dreams of our future.
Through LIGHTSTORIES, I wish to share these intimate stories, in the hope that the same resonance that inspired their creation might touch those who view them.
Every image is a story—of light, of darkness, and of the eternal dance between the two.
